Film: Attack the Block

Media Ownership:
How the ownership of the production distribution and exhibition companies affects the type of films that are made.

Attack The Block:

Media Conglomerate: NONE (Not Own)
Studio: Big Talk Productions
Subsidiary Compnay: NONE (Indie Films)
Fianance: UK Film Council, Film 4,
Disrtubuted: Optimum (Studion Canel)

Attack the Block have no distrubution network in different places, unlike Batman who have 90 terrotories WorldWide.
The only "Star Power" that Attack the Block could afford was Nick Frost, unlike batman who can afford actors that are well known.
The films shooting area was restricted due to insufficent funds- they only shot in Elephant and Castle as well as Heygate Estates unlike Batman, which was filmed in Iceland, London, Chigaco ECT, due to them having suffiecent amount of money.
The film also lacked in Arttechnology, as they cheated with CGI (Computer Generated Images). The reason they used minimun CGI was because the cost was to high unlike Batman, who spend $1 million on 1 scene with the use of CGI.

Runtime: 99 mins

Attack the block is an independent sci-fi comedy movie, which is centered around a teenage gang trying to defend the estate that they live in from a sudden alien invasion. This movie was both written and directed by Joe Cornish. The movie was also produced by Nira Park and James Wilson. The studio that got Attack the block distributed were Optimmum Releasing UK and Screen Gems. The Production studios that were involved with this film were the Studio council and the UK film Council

The film was released in cinemas on the 11th may 2011 and had the budget of £9 million; however it only made around £3 million pounds in the box office which means that there was no gross profit whatsoever. A possible reason for why this movie was unsuccessful was due to it having a fairly small target audience; for example a movie such as the dark knight has a world wide target audience, but this movie's target audience is centered within london. Although the film was not very successful, it managed to win several awards at film festivals.
